Acts 1:1-26

Ice Breaker Activity: First Things First – Open With Prayer

In this passage of Scripture we are told that there was an occasion when Jesus was eating with His disciples. One source states that in the ancient middle-east well-to-do Romans might eat four meals a day while most Jews would eat two. Share with the group which is your favorite meal of the day and why.

In Acts 1:1 Dr. Luke refers to his former book, see Luke 1:1-4. Read aloud Luke 24:36-53. Discuss how this passage makes a good background text for the study of the Book of Acts.

Luke stresses the importance of the heart and mind, see Luke 24:31, 32, 38, 45. Share in your group the importance of both the heart and mind in being a Jesus follower.

Acts 1:3 references a 40 Day experience of Jesus. Read individually about His first recorded 40 Day experience, Matthew 4:1-11. Share your observations with the group.

Read aloud Acts 1:6-8. Talk about what the disciples wanted to know and how it is that Jesus answered them. Be sure and note the promise of Acts 1:8.

Read aloud Acts 1:9-11. As a key thought and spiritual insight - share within your group your main takeaway from Acts 1:1-26. Note that Acts 1:26 is the last recorded instance where casting lots was used to discern God’s will.

Close your time in prayer.
