Ice Breaker Activity: First Things First – Open With Prayer
1 Corinthians 16:14 states, “Do everything in love”. Share how and why love is an excellent motivator and a few practical ways that love can be given and received.
This Digging Deeper lesson depends heavily on Step Four of the Seven Fold Bible Study Plan – Connection. Context is very important in Bible study and we should always remember that the best commentary on the Bible is the Bible. The background for today’s lesson relies heavily on the understanding of life in the early church. Read individually and silently Acts 2:42-47. Next have the passage read aloud. See how many observations the group can discover regarding life in the early church.
Taking a similar approach to Acts 4:32-37. Again, see how many observations you can discover about life in the early church. Also, note who is mentioned in Acts 4:36-37 and what is said of him.
Read aloud the account of Ananias and Sapphira as recorded in Acts 5:1-11. Discuss possible motivations for their actions and the results that followed.
Divide into two groups and have one groups take 2 Corinthians 8 and the other 2 Corinthians 9. Read individually and silently. Report what can be learned about attitudes in giving and living from these chapters.
Want a “great” church? Read aloud Acts 4:33,34; & Acts 5:5,11. Look for the words great or much. What was great or much in the early church?
