First Things First - Open in Prayer

Ice Breaker Activity: I can’t remember what gifts I received for Christmas, oops. If you can, share with the group a gift that you received that was memorable. Who was it from, what was the gift and what made it special or memorable?

Read aloud Matthew 6:1-4. Allow a few moments for group members to read again silently and make some observations. Then share these insights one at a time.

Divide the group in half. Have one half look for attitudes in giving in 2 Corinthians 8 and the other to do the same in

2 Corinthians 9. Have the groups report and share their findings.

Read aloud 1 Corinthians 16:1-2. Discuss what can be learned from these verses.

Donald Whitney in his book, “Spiritual Disciplines for the Chirstian Life,” lists two areas of stewardship, time and money. Share in the group how we might be better stewards of money.

Before closing in prayer, work together to come up with three biblical principles that should guide our giving.
