Digging Deeper - Session Three

Acts 9:1-43

Ice Breaker Activity: First Things First – Open With Prayer

I have many fond memories of childhood and adolescent years. Share with the group a favorite memory while growing up and what made it special.

Acts 9:1-31 recounts the conversion and call to ministry of Saul of Tarsus whom we will refer to as Paul. Take this story in the sections provided below and draw from them spiritual insights and applications for us today.

Read aloud Acts 9:1-9. Share your observations and what can be learned from this passage. (Don’t miss Paul’s response in verse five).

Read aloud Acts 9:10-19. Share your observations and what can be learned from this passage. (Is it interesting that God’s call on his life is revealed to someone before Paul, see verses 15,16)?

Read aloud Acts 9:20-31 and what can be learned from this passage.

(See verse 20 for what Paul did immediately and verse 27 to see who advocated for Paul in Jerusalem).

This passage of Scripture stresses the importance of both a real conversion or salvation experience and the significance and personal nature of God’s call upon our lives (every day of this 40 Day experience the question is asked “Dear Lord, what do you have in mind?”) Discuss the reality and importance of both conversion and call. Also, share how helpful it can be to have an advocate when we face adversity.

Key Thought-Spiritual Insight – Share with the group your main takeaway from this passage and close your time in prayer.
